Housing, Utilities and Taxes

Many local realtors are available to assist in obtaining housing in the area, be it purchasing or renting. Building contractors are available to construct new homes in two new subdivisions located in Deshler.

Recreation

Deshler has many fine recreational facilities to offer. There are two recreational parks with shelter houses and playground equipment, a community swimming pool, tennis courts and three reservoirs for fishing. Deshler is very proud of the summer recreation programs, which provide fun and experience for all ages. The Deshler Memorial Field has two fields for baseball and softball activities. The Chamber also sponsors a six- week morning recreation program for children in grades K-6. The Deshler Men's Association also has a lighted basketball court at their facilities. For youth we have:

Religion

Deshler offers a variety of opportunities for Christian worship, education, and service. There are many different denominations including Lutheran, United Methodist, Catholic, Presbyterian, Church of the Brethren, and Baptist. The Deshler Council of Churches works together on ecumenical projects including community worship services and community vacation Bible school. Area congregations have reached beyond their own walls to provide social service ministry to all age groups.

Community Organizations and Services

Many civic organizations contribute to the good of the community, both through the cooperative efforts of their members and through financial donations. Some local clubs and organizations are the Lions Club, American Legion, Chamber of Commerce, Bartlow Township Historical Society, Deshler Men's Association, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, OCCL Clubs, Genealogical Society, Bavarian Club, Garden Club, Art League, Aladdin Club, Eastern Stars, Mason, 4-H, and a Senior Citizens Organization.

Education

The Patrick Henry School System traditionally provides a high-quality academic environment for its 1,200+ students. The school system is composed of two elementary schools (Deshler Elementary, housing grades K to 2; and Malinta Elementary, housing grades 3 and 4), a new centralized middle school, housing grades 5 through 8; and a centralized high school for grades 9 through 12. Our schools share a common element -- a strong and caring teaching and support staff. Special programs in the district include an enrichment program, speech & hearing program and specialized reading teachers.

The Vocational Agriculture Department repeatedly advances to state levels at the Ohio State Fair and the music department as well as the science department participates and competes at the state level.

The Athletic Department is a member of the Northwest Ohio Athletic League, the oldest conference in the state of Ohio. Patrick Henry offers a full range of athletic and extra-curricular programs that develop the full range of students' interest and ability.

Patrick Henry School District Library System is headquartered in Deshler at the Edwin Memorial Library with branches in Hamler and Malinta. These libraries have a book collection of over 85,500.

Within commuting distance there are two technical colleges, three private colleges, two state universities and a parochial school.

The PTO, the Parent Music Association, the Athletic Boosters, and the Academic Boosters also support the school system.
